Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryPETER FREJUK
After a long, full, and beautiful life, Peter Frejuk passed away peacefully at the remarkable age of 99. He is now reunited with the love of his life, Rita.
Peter will be forever cherished by his children, Wendy (Doug McMullin) and John (Christal O’Brien-Frejuk), and deeply missed by his beloved granddaughters, Shayna (Steve Smith) and Kara.
Born in Transcona in 1926 to Ukrainian immigrants John and Anastasia Frejuk, Peter grew up alongside his siblings, Marie, Nick and Ann. From a young age, he embodied hard work, dedicating 42 years to CN Rail with a two-year pause to serve his country during the Second World War - a period of his life he carried with quiet dignity.
A dedicated community member, Peter taught First Aid with St. John Ambulance, volunteered as a CN firefighter, and helped found the Transcona Kinsmen and K-40 Clubs. His artistic spirit shone through in his sketches and woodworking. Known as an incredible dancer, Peter often had a line of eager partners waiting to share a turn with him at weddings and socials. He loved the water and spent countless summers at Grand Beach and Spruce Sands, even fulfilling his dream of visiting Waikiki beach with Rita on a bucket list trip to Hawaii.
In 1959, Peter married his sweetheart Rita, and together they bought their forever home on Cloverdale Crescent - while still on their honeymoon. That home became the heart of their lives, filled with love, laughter, and countless memories: holidays, birthdays, quiet evenings, and everything in between. After Rita’s passing in 2022, Peter remained there, surrounded by love and care from his devoted family, neighbours and homecare workers, until just before his passing.
A small family service will be held in the coming months. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations to the Winnipeg Pet Rescue Shelter, in honour of Peter’s lifelong love of animals - especially his “fur grandbabies,” who never failed to make him smile.
In the words of Peter’s favourite show, The Lawrence Welk Show:
