MICHAEL A. STEEVES
On Sunday, November 8, while the sun was shining brightly, Michael started out on the next leg of his journey.
He is survived by his loving wife, Lynne, his children, Warren (Tammy) and Melissa. Lynne’s family, Trevor (Corrie), Sean (Sheri), Melissa (Sam), Samantha (Tristan), grandsons Tyler and Tegan, granddaughter Bentlee, brother Dennis (Bettie) and nieces Colleen, Erin (Mike), and brother-in-law Todd.
Michael was born in Winnipeg in 1946, graduated from Churchill High before entering the University of Manitoba where he obtained a BSc in Geology and a MS in Earth Sciences. While there he played linebacker for the Bison football team. He also held a Chartered Financial Analyst designation.
Throughout his adult life, Mike moved to many places in Canada and the United States and worked at many careers. He was probably the proudest of being a geologist and loved to tell everyone he met about it. Rocks were his passion. He worked in various capacities as an executive in both the Investment and Mining industries, having a career spanning over 55 years.
Mike was a man of unwavering kindness and gentle strength. He loved golf, the Blue Jays, jazz, classic rock and above all a good scotch or bourbon. He loved to travel having visited all continents except Antarctica and longed to visit New Zealand. When Lynne and he were married they travelled wherever they could, most recently a cruise in Greece and Turkey.
He fell in love with Guayabitos in Mexico and loved spending winter months there. Places closer to home that held a piece of his heart were the cottage at Grand Beach and Ruth Gardens home to his buddies in the Happy Hour Gang.
A celebration of life will be on Tuesday, November 18 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Alphonsus Roman Catholic Church, 315 Munroe Avenue, Winnipeg, MB. followed by a reception at 1179 Rothesay St.
In lieu of flowers, tell someone you love them, or if you wish a donation to CancerCare would be greatly appreciated.
Michael was cared for in the IC unit in Saint Boniface Hospital and the family wishes to thank them for the kind and respectful way he was treated during his stay. A special thank you to Dr. Erica ClarkeWhalen.
