Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Mom met Wanda in Backnang MCC camp in West Germany, They were both in Grade 7 and became fast friends, This was a gathering point where preparations were made to immigrate to Canada. In October 1948 they left on the SS Marine Tiger where they were assigned bunks in the 3rd class area in steerage. On October 29, 1948, they arrived in Halifax Nova Scotia at pier 21. Mom and Wanda remained lifelong friends, I remember the road trips to Manitoba as a child where we visited our parents relatives and close friends. We were always welcomed warmly at Wanda's Place. Mom and Wanda communicated regularly by phone and letters Mom died in December 2020, and I am sure they have met by now and will be celebrating Christmas together.
