EDOUARD JOSEPH PRAIRIE

November 6, 1932 -

November 28, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, who passed peacefully, in his sleep at the Grace Hospital.

He was predeceased by his wife Cécile (Grégoire). Left to cherish his memory are his six children Marcel, Colette, Jean-Marc, Gérald, Jacques, Aline, their respective families, numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren as well as his two surviving sisters, and many other nieces, nephews and close friends.

Le Grand Edouard’s early childhood was spent on the farm in La Broquerie, Manitoba. The family then moved to St. Boniface where he attended Provencher School until their move to Maillardville now Coquitlam, BC. He joined the Princess Patricia’s Canadian Light Infantry specializing in the repair of military tanks and trucks. He spent two years with NATO Forces in Germany during the cold war in the fifties.

On his return to Canada, his heavy-duty mechanic skills, as well as his personal discipline and dependability aided him in securing work with the railways, on the locomotives, and eventually becoming a power engineer. He worked in the powerhouses of numerous Winnipeg hospitals and at the Shell Oil refinery, ending his career at the Misericordia Hospital.

Edouard met the love of his life, Cécile, in St. Boniface where he settled and raised his children. He was a handyman who could fix anything. He generously donated his time to others as an active parishioner of the St. Boniface Cathedral, a beloved scout leader, and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus.

A funeral mass will be held at the St. Boniface Cathedral at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2025, 190 Avenue de la Cathedrale. Eulogies will be held prior to the service at 10:30 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Cancer Care of Manitoba.

Condolences & Memories (4 entries)

  • I first met Edouard when I worked at a women's shelter and he was volunteering his time to do odd jobs and upkeep of the property. We had some good conversations together and I always appreciated his openness and honesty. I often saw him at church and loved to go say hello to him. He had a strong faith and it showed in his personality and his warm smile. Thank you Edouard for having been an inspiration to me. May you be in the peace and joy of being with God. I will remember you. - Posted by: Marie-Paule Chartier (friend) on: Dec 07, 2025
