IRIS YUSWAK/HANISCHUK

(nee DOLYNCHUK)

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our mother, Iris, on Tuesday, December 9, 2025. She passed after a brave ten day fight at the Grace Hospital, with her family by her side.

Iris is survived by her son Lennie Hanischuk (Cindy); her daughter Joan Magro (Vince); her grandson Pietro Magro (Peter); and her husband Tom Yuswak. She was predeceased by our father, John Hanischuk (1976); as well as her parents and siblings.

Mom was born in Tolstoi, Manitoba on December 18, 1938, and later moved to Winnipeg with her mother. While in Winnipeg, she held many jobs, including working in the breakfast program at Margaret Scott School. After the loss of our dad, Mom began working in the sporting goods department at K-Mart, a position that eventually led to a long career in payroll.

In 1988, Mom married Tom, and together they moved to Camp Morton, where they enjoyed a full and happy retirement. Playing cards, going to dances at the Legion, and bowling with their circle of friends brought her great joy. There were a few moves over the years - from Gimli back to Winnipeg. With Mom's Alzheimer’s progressing, a move to Holy Family Nursing Home was made. Our heartfelt thanks goes out to the team at Holy Family (Unit 2C, St. Mary's section) for the love and support they gave Mom.

The family extends thanks to the nursing staff at the Grace Hospital (3 North), along with a heartfelt thank you to Father Michael for last rites and Father Zachary for his services.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Alzheimer Society of Manitoba.

A private service will be held on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

Rest in peace, Mom. You will be forever missed and always loved.
