RICHARD HACKBART

Richard Hackbart passed away peacefully at the age of 92 at Grace Hospital on December 9, 2025.

He was the devoted husband of 69 years to Adele; a loving father to Rana (John) and Marika (Rory); son of Emil and Anna Hackbart; and dear brother to Frieda (Edmund), Siegfried (Leona), and Rosalia. Richard was a proud Opa to his grandsons, Jordan (Abby), James, Karsen (Alexa), and Gavin (Emily); a great-grandfather to Trace; and a cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Born in 1933 in Skierdy, Poland, to German parents, Richard endured the challenges of childhood during the Second World War - experiences that shaped the strength, faith, and resilience he carried throughout his life. At the age of 18, Richard and his sister Frieda were sponsored by their Onkle Otto Witzke and immigrated to Canada, arriving aboard the Beaverbrae on April 22, 1952. After a brief stay in Beausejour, they settled in Winnipeg, where Richard built a career as a skilled butcher.

Richard’s greatest joys were his family and Adele’s cooking. He loved helping out at the farm, cheering on his daughters and grandsons at their sporting events, bargain shopping, and spending time with family and friends. Many happy Sunday afternoons were spent at Grand Beach, in Winnipeg’s city parks, or sharing Kaffee und Kuchen with relatives.

Guided by a strong faith in God, Richard will be remembered for his deep devotion to family, his legendary barbecuing, and the laughter and stories he shared with all who knew him.

The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the many healthcare professionals who cared for Richard, as well as to the staff and friends at the Arms of the Cross for their love and support.

Cremation has taken place and Richard’s life was honoured in a private family ceremony. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all whose lives he touched.
