DAVID ROBERT MARTEL

November 23, 1953 - December 18, 2025

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Martel, who left us peacefully on December 18, 2025, at the age of 72, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.

Bob was the second youngest of 15 children and was predeceased by his parents, Alice and Albert Martel, as well as seven of his siblings. His upbringing helped shape the generous, hardworking, and loyal man he became.

Bob will be lovingly remembered by his wife Carol, and by his children, Michael (Carol), Jeanine (Darryl), Shauna, Robbie, Janelle (Shaughn), and Nicole (Brendan). He was a proud Papa to his 12 grandchildren: Hailey (Zac), Jenessa, Tailor, Kamryn, Abby, Myah, Shane, Grady, Griffin, Garrett, Austin, and Sophie.

Bob came from humble beginnings and built a life rooted in hard work, determination, and integrity. From not having much, he went on to start his company, Martel Bros, with his brother, laying the foundation for a lifelong career as a dedicated businessman. Later, Bob founded and created St. B Video, building it into a well-known neighborhood business and a gathering place for the community. In recognition of the man he was — his courage, generosity, and strength of character — Bob was affectionately decorated as "Mr. Braveheart." After many years of hard work and commitment, Bob retired at the age of 68, proud of what he had built and the life he created for his family.

Bob was an avid golfer for over 30 years and a longtime member of Transcona Golf Club.

He was also a loyal season ticket holder of the Winnipeg Jets, Winnipeg Blue Bombers, and the Manitoba Moose, and enjoyed spending time at his home in Arizona.

Known affectionately as "Super Bob," Dad, Grandpa or Papa, he was known for his generosity and willingness to help others but also for his quick wit and sense of humour. Bob loved to make people laugh, and his jokes and laughter were a constant presence wherever he went. He leaves behind a legacy defined by kindness, hard work, laughter, and deep love for his family.

Who's the best? Papa's the best.

Rest in peace Super Bob.
