It is with deep sadness that the family of Ernie Jones, of Winnipeg, announces his passing on Sunday, December 14, at his home in Winnipeg.
Left to mourn are his sister, Lorraine (Doug); nephews, Tom, Ron, and Randy; and nieces, Connie, Lenore, Leslie, and Linda; along with Fred, Linda, and all his friends from the Winnipeg Teachers' Bowling League. He was predeceased by his parents, Art and Edna Jones, sister Florence, and brother-in-law Dave.
Ernie was born in Winnipeg on July 17, 1937, to Art and Edna Jones. Ernie was a gifted student who excelled in school. He was educated at Cecil Rhodes School and Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. After trying his skills in the working world, it became evident quickly that he was not meant for hard physical endeavors and so he enrolled in Normal School and graduated as an educator. Ernie taught in Winnipeg 1 School Division, in grades five and six throughout most of his career. He taught at Carpathia School, Laura Secord School and Kent Road School. He invested his whole self to ensure that all his students received the best education he could provide.
His retirement years were spent in different endeavors, all meant to enrich the lives of his fellow humans. Ernie served five years volunteering with Meals on Wheels. He was very skilled at crocheting items to be given away to his family members, bowling friends, and people he met during his hospital stays. He was also involved in other community activities and campaigned in several elections for various candidates. He enjoyed engaging in lively political debates with friends.
Cremation has taken place, and no service will be held. His remains will be scattered at Bird’s Hill Park.
