Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryDR. WILLIAM JOHN BLIGHT
Bill was raised during the war. His father Clifford was a bomber instructor. He loved spending time at the family farm in Oakville Manitoba. As the war ended, he moved to Regina to finish high school. Bill completed his Bachelor of Science and Medical degree at U of Saskatoon. During post-secondary school he was very proud of his summer jobs, Mapping the Mackenzie valley and digging for Dinosaurs fossils in the Cypress Hills with the Regina Museum. He met his wife Donna at Saskatoon Hospital where she worked as a nurse.
Bill interned at St. Boniface Hospital, spent over 40 years there, culminating as Head of Family Medicine. He also ran a private practice in Windsor Park. Bill was the first private practice doctor in Manitoba to computerize his office, which led his sons into the fields of Computer Science and Engineering.
He enjoyed spending time at Falcon Lake, reading, relaxing and taking in nature. In his later years he moved into the Winnipeg Canoe Club assisted living, where he raved about the meals. When his health began failing, going to the hospital felt like going home because he had worked there for 40 years.

I remember so well the night I heard a man and my parents speaking in hushed tones up at the front door of our Windsor Park home. I was nineteen years old and recalled the family having gone to bed earlier that night. What was going on? Only later after the unexpected visitor had left and my parents came to my room did I learn that the young doctor who had recently moved onto our street had responded in the middle of the night to my father's urgent door knock to come and see what was wrong with me as I moaned unconscious in my bed. That man was Dr. Blight. Now at the age of 80 I honour the memory and the kindness of a young doctor making a midnight home visit to serve a patient he'd never met and her parents who thought they were losing their elder daughter to an unexpected malady. I was hospitalized thanks to Dt. Blight and over time did recover. managed to graduate, and soon married and moved away. I never saw Dr. Blight again. I am now over 80 and Dr. Blight's name has remained always in my memory as the kind young doctor who responded in the middle of the night to the plea of parents he'd never met to save the life of the daughter they loved. I am sure there were many more to follow over his long years of service. May he rest in peace Laura Leah (Allan) Steiman - Posted by: Laura STEIMAN (Patient) on: Dec 27, 2025

When Dr Blight came to Windsor Park he became our Family Dr. The term family Dr was so true as our family's grew together. The DR took care of me and I took care of their family vehicles. It was a true friendship. Dr Blights communication skills were outstanding and his true concern for our family was above all call. What a great guy, a one and only. Condolence from Don, Joyce and all the Sobering family. Travel safe old friend. - Posted by: don sobering (freinds of the Family) on: Dec 27, 2025

I worked with Dr Blight in Windsor Park in 1984/85. This was my first introduction to computers and I thought I was pretty smart being able to learn them. It was a great work experience and he gave me a great reference when I moved to Portage la Prairie. Dr Blight also video taped my wedding in 1987. Condolences to the family. He was a very kind caring Doctor.. RIP Dr. Blight. - Posted by: Deb Isfeld (Worked with him at the clinic in Windsor Park) on: Dec 27, 2025
