DALE PAIGE PATTERSON

1930 - 2025

Our father, Dale Patterson, passed away peacefully in the afternoon of December 19, 2025. Dad was comforted to know his life's journey would end where it began, in Winnipeg.

He was predeceased by his parents, Paige and Hazel Patterson. He is survived by his three children: Mark (Mike), Kelly (Walter), Scott (Rayanna) as well as sisters, Pat (Ron) and Donna and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. He was also an especially proud grandfather to grandson Mackenzie.

Dad was born in Winnipeg on August 20, 1930. The family moved to several locations in Manitoba during his childhood, but returned ultimately to Winnipeg where in 1950, dad entered the Faculty of Science at the University of Manitoba.

In 1954, Dad joined Canada Westinghouse and was married to May (Irvine). In 1955 Dad and Mom moved to Regina following his promotion to Branch Manager. Mark, Kelly and Scott were all born there before the family returned to Winnipeg in 1964.

In 1964, Dad joined Wilson Office Specialty, eventually becoming General Manager, Western Canada. One of the highlights of his time there was the fishing trip that Dad took with a co-worker to the Artic. Dad navigated their small plane to the Beaufort Sea and back. This sparked Dad's interest in aviation which would see him eventually acquiring his pilot's license.

In 1982, Dad joined Purlolator Courier Canada becoming Senior Vice-President before his retirement in 1980. During this period Mom and Dad separated. Dad then began a new life of many years with Georgina (nee Sanford). They moved into their new home at 97 Dickens Drive in 1985 where they spent many happy years together.

Dad was a joiner, started with Delta Upsilon Fraternity. He was a Kinsman for many years as well as a long standing Rotarian. Dad was also a member of the Winnipeg Winter Club for 20 years.

Dad's favourite place to spend time was at the family cottage at Hunt Lake. Commencing in 1993, Dad began his labor of love: the transformation of the seasonal cabin to an all-season beautiful cottage. Dad spent many happy years there surrounded by family and friends, especially his lake neighbours, the Gibb's.

Dad loved his daily martini with some Frank Sinatra playing in the background. Our Dad actually passed away listening to his favorite song "My Way" with a Scotch by his side thanks to his grandson, Mack. A perfect end to a well-lived life.

Dad was a whiz with cars and the handiest of handymen. He could fix anything. He was also an admitted "people person" and all who came to know him had a friend for life. He was a force of nature as those who knew him can attest.

Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will be held later in the summer. Dad would have like his loved ones to remember him by raising a toast in his memory, preferably with "old blue eyes" singing in the background.

"And now the purple dusk of twilight time steals across the meadows of my heart. High up in the sky the little stars climb, always remind me that we're apart. You wander down the lane and fall away, leaving me a song that will not die. Love is now. The stardust of yesterday, the music of the years gone by"  "Stardust"
