It is with heavy hearts and deep gratitude for a life so gracefully lived that we announce the passing of our beloved matriarch, Joan Kullberg who died suddenly after a brief illness on December 27, 2025 in her 97th year.
Joan was born to Theo and Ada Craddock in Melfort, Saskatchewan and raised with her scallywag brother Laurie. The family moved to Brandon where Joan met the love of her life, Jack Kullberg their marriage of 53 years was filled with devotion and companionship until Jack’s passing in 2001 – a loss Joan carried with quiet strength.
Joan and Jack raised three children and were blessed with grandchildren and great-grandchildren, eldest son Richard Kullberg (Rhonda Kullberg) daughters Melinda Knipers (predeceased) and Diane Kullberg (Cam Hotel) and grandchildren Ashley Desrochers (predeceased) Pam McLean (Mike McLean) Amber Blair (Mike Blair and daughter Julianna) and Alexa Kullberg-Chandler (Geoff Chandler).
Joan was the glue that bonded her small family and served as their exemplar of how to live a healthy, active life filled with intelligent curiosity, compassion, and an innate sense of style. Joan loved to read and engaged in world affairs, reading the newspapers daily and watching global events on television. Most importantly, Joan enjoying the conversation and camaraderie her bridge friends brought to her life. These faithful friends enriched her life with humor, kindness and a shared love of bridge for which she was so very grateful.
Joan and Jack were passionate about golf. At Clear Lake she enjoyed 65 years of cottage life, a life which involved a golf game almost every day. Their cottage was a central spot for drinks after golf and usually, being the last people to the leave the lake in October, the famous Dregs Golf Tourny. The golf continued in winter spending time in California to play and enjoy time with friends, Canadian and American, at the club.
Throughout her life, Joan overcame obstacles with grace and tenacity and showed strength every day. She was sought out for her wisdom, trusted for her honesty, and remembered for her generosity. Joan had a soft spot for animals and never denied any stray animal refuge and was often caring for someone’s pet.
A private ceremony will be held for the family. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Brandon Regional Health Centre Foundation. The family would like to thank the Wawanesa Personal Care Home staff for their kind attention and excellent care in the final year of her life.
