MARY SOFIE FUTROS

(nee GALBICKA)

1940 - 2026

It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved mom, sister, aunt, grandma, great-grandma, and friend. Mary is survived by her children, Joey, Ernie Jr. (Krista), Eddy (Rhonda), and Angela (Mike), along with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was predeceased by her husband Ernie, their youngest son Randy, her parents, Teofil and Mary, and her brothers, Cyril and Stanley.

Mary was born in a log cabin in Malonton, Manitoba, and grew up in Rosewood, Manitoba. On July 8, 1961, she married the love of her life, Ernie, and together they raised five children. Their life’s journey began in St. Francis Xavier, continued through St. Laurent, and finally settled in the RM of Rosser in 1981.

After completing her schooling, Mary began her career as a secretary at Hamilies Hatchery in Winnipeg. Once married, family life quickly became her focus.

In her younger years, Mary loved playing cards, cooking, gardening, snowmobiling, spending time with family and friends, and her passion for music. She and Ernie were known for their warmth and hospitality, whether entertaining at home or at their cabin at Twin Lakes.

In the late 1970s, Mary and Ernie began operating their own business together - Mary managing the office while Ernie took care of operations. Keeping Ernie “on track” was no small task, but she managed it with patience and a smile. After Ernie’s passing in 2013, Mary continued to run the family business until her retirement in 2020 at the age of 79.

Some of her grandchildren’s fondest memories are of baking cinnamon buns at her kitchen counter. Her children and grandchildren were always her greatest joy. She loved each of us more than words can express, and we were truly blessed to call her Mom and Grandma. Her beautiful smile and warm laugh will forever be remembered by everyone who knew her.

The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to the staff at Tudor House and St. Joseph Marguerite for their care and compassion during the last two years of her life.

A Funeral Mass will take place on Friday, January 16, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Peter’s Catholic Church located at 2624 Inkster Blvd., in Winnipeg, MB. Lunch to follow at Player’s Golf Course located at 2695 Park Royale Way, Winnipeg, MB.
