Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryLinda Claudette Volkmar
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Linda Claudette Volkmar (Nee Gautier) on January 28, 2026, at her home with family in attendance. Linda was pre-deceased by her parents Aimee and Irene Gautier and by her brother Laurie. Linda will be immensely missed by her husband of 36 years Arne Volkmar, and by her daughters Lisa and Marcie (Grant). She is also survived by her beloved grandson Logan together with her brother Dan, sister-in-law Roseanne, nephews Brad (Candace) and Jeff (Steven), grandnephew Aiden, grandnieces Madison, Kirsten, and Aimee together with all her friends and colleagues.
Linda was born and spent her entire childhood in old St. Boniface, until she married and began her own family. Throughout her career in the medical field, her primary focus was on providing kind and thorough patient care on the front lines. Eventually her dedication led her to the management of the St. James Street Medical Clinic from which she eventually retired.
Her favourite recreational pursuits were solving puzzles of all kinds, planning family events and spending time with her daughters. She had a special place in her heart for her grandson Logan who was her only grandchild. She also developed a special love for the island of Barbados and the Island people. She spent two months of every year living on the island where she developed special ties with her Bajan neighbours, Brown’s Beach, the local rum shop, and Shaker’s restaurant. She was familiar with the entire island and became a confident and fearless driver on its notoriously narrow roads. She would tell those who knew her that should she ever win a lottery she would build a house on the island and spend the entire winter there. At home in Winnipeg her summer days were often spent relaxing at the Gauthier family house at Twin Lakes Beach on Lake Manitoba. She will always be remembered as a dedicated and stubbornly independent woman, who was fiercely devoted to her family. She will be missed by all her family for her thoughtful, generous, and caring nature.
The family would like to thank the palliative home care people who were so compassionate in their many visits with her and whose dedication to her care allowed Linda to spend her last days at home in relative comfort.
