Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryCATHERINE (TINA) MARIA SIERHUIS
With hearts full of love and gratitude for a life well lived, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Tina on January 29, 2026 at the age of 93. A devoted wife, mother, and Oma, she was called home to be with the Lord, whom she loved and trusted throughout her life.
Tina was born December 24, 1932 in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, the daughter of Cornelius and Marie Zonneveld. She grew up in a large and lively family as one of 13 children. Tina cherished spending time with her mother in the kitchen, helping in the family store, playing games with her brothers and sisters, and excelling on her handball team. In 1951, Tina's family immigrated to Canada and settled in St. Eustache, Manitoba. In 1955, she married her darling husband, Dick Sierhuis. Together, they built a home grounded in love, perseverance, and faith while raising 13 children. As a mother, she gave endlessly of herself. Her love was constant, compassionate and never-ending.
Family was Tina's greatest blessing and her greatest joy. Beach days at West Hawk Lake were especially precious. She delighted in time spent with her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren reveling in card and board games and swimming with them all in the backyard pool.
Tina found joy EVERYWHERE!!! She had a contagious, hearty laugh and an incredible sense of humor. One of her greatest joys was traveling with her wonderful husband Dick. Their many trips back to Holland to visit family and friends were always big highlights. Their love of travel took them around the world. Other simple joys included sharing a cozy cup of coffee with friends, neighbors and her children. She loved people - and people loved her.
Tina took great pride in her hobbies which included knitting, crocheting, embroidery, playing the piano, journaling, tending to her plants and lovingly caring for her budgies.
She was actively involved in church ministries at St. John Brebeuf Parish, delivering communion, visiting the elderly, cooking for the needy, and especially loved singing in the church choir. She was a member of the Catholic Women's League and she also volunteered with St. John Ambulance.
Tina believed faith was best lived through action. No matter how busy she was, she always made time for others. Her unwavering faith was taught more by example than words ever could. Devoted to The Blessed Virgin, she prayed the Rosary daily with many an extra prayer of petition for those she loved and cared about. She was ever grateful for her many blessings and never took one for granted.
Tina will be forever tenderly remembered by her loving husband of 70 years, Dick; her children, Lawrence (Diane) Sierhuis, Marion (Gary) Senez, Annette (Ron) Andrews, Yvonne Supeene, Ingrid (Joseph) Stratton, Audrey Rey (Leonard van Leeuwen), Richard Sierhuis, Mark (Connie) Sierhuis, Trevor (Faye) Sierhuis, Dennis (Lori) Sierhuis, Grace (Patrick) Delaquis and Christina (Rob) Young; her 39 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren whom she loved so dearly. She is also survived by her siblings, Jack (Mary-Jane), Kees, Bill (Laurie); sister-in-law Olive; Dick's siblings, Afra, Ben (Wil), Corrie (sister-in-law), Frans (Corrie) and Ruud (Wil). She will be greatly missed by all who were blessed to know her.
Tina was predeceased by her sons-in-law, Donald Rey, Richard Supeene; grandson Ryan Sierhuis; her parents, Cornelius and Marie Zonneveld (Pa and Moe); her siblings, Lou, Dora, Theo, Jan, Peter (Suzanne), Ann (John), Gerry, Gertie (Eric) and Laurence (Johanna); sister-in-law Janice; Dicks parents, Bregetta Sierhuis-Kaaij, Aloysius and Anna Maria Sierhuis (Granny and Grandpa), Henk (Thea), Tom, and brothers-in-law, Ad and Ed.
People often said our Mom was one in a million, but we were blessed to know the truth - she was uniquely and beautifully one of a kind.
Our family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Grace Hospital staff and Home Care workers for their compassionate care and kindness.
A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on March 11, 2026 at 11:00 a.m. St. John Brebeuf Parish, 1707 John Brebeuf Place. Winnipeg, Manitoba.

I met Tini in the late 1990s when she was visiting her daughter Marion who lived in the lower mainland of BC. There have been very few people in my life who I clicked with immediately as I did with her, oddly it felt like I already knew her. I invited them to have lunch at my home and we shared our stories. I believe what connected Tini and I the most was our faith in God and our both being born in Holland, even though I immigrated with my family to BC in 1953 when I was six years old I still speak and understand Dutch. A few years later she and Dick came out to the coast and I invited them to dinner so that they could meet my husband Tony. Over the following years we kept in touch by phone and it wasn't regular contact but that didn't matter whenever we spoke we both felt that same enduring bond. I will never forget her, she enriched my life and I know we’ll meet again someday in Heaven. Tony and I want to extend our sincere condolences to all of you, her family. Tini was a wonderful person, and her passing is a great loss in all your lives, but especially in Dick’s life. We keep him in our thoughts and prayers. - Posted by: Leni Vandersteen (Friendship) on: Feb 09, 2026

Dear Dad, I know the passing of Mom from this earth is a very difficult time of great mourning for you and the entire family. I appreciated the call that notified me of her entrance into Eternity. It is certainly the end of an era, as 93 years is a long time to be provided for and preside over such a large family. It really makes me think about how quickly life passes and how much we all need God's grace and mercy every single day. I have had many years to weigh in and get to know Mom as I now reflect on her passing on and the relationship we had together. I am so grateful to have come to Wpg when I did, in Feb.2025, so as to spend quality time with both of you, telling Mom that I loved her, knowing full well it was most likely going to be the last time I would see her. I did not get to spend any one-on-one time with her, which I would have loved to have had the opportunity do, yet we still managed to convey the love we had for each other. I find great comfort in knowing that the Lord is the perfect, righteous Judge, and he saw every part of Mom's heart that we could not see, and I am resting in His perfect Mercy, Justice, and Grace After much time in prayer and reflection, and understanding that our history has been difficult, I have found such healing through my relationship with the Lord, which allows me to move forward focusing on the love and mercy that God has shown. I have a deep sense of peace about remaining in B.C. at this time and shall be honoring this sensitive period privately. I shall be lifting the family in prayer, asking that the God of Presence and the God of Grace be with you all. Mom will forever be remembered. - Posted by: Casey Sierhuis (son) on: Feb 07, 2026

Family Sierhuis and Zonneveld. Our condolences with the loss of Tina Sierhuis-Zonneveld. We had a birthday calender and on December 24th, Tina's birthday, she marked the date with some flowers and the text: the most loveley sister-in-law. And she was right. We zullen je missen, je kopjes koffie, je humor en de potjes klaverjassen. Frans en Corrie - Posted by: Frans en Corrie Sierhuis (brother-in-law and sister-in-law) on: Feb 07, 2026
