P. (OTTO) PENNER
Otto passed away at home with family by his side after a short illness. He lived a full life and made many friends wherever he went.
Otto was born at home on the family farm near Oak Lake to Peter and Katherine Penner, the eldest of four. It was there that he developed an enduring interest in agriculture. He met his wife Marlene (Gompf) in high school, and they were married for 63 years.
Otto and Marlene have three children Kevin, Janet (Bruce) and Brad (Penny); grandchildren Zoe and Baron. He is also survived by his siblings Helen (Barrie), Eric, Louise (Lou), his in-laws Karl (Monica), Larry (Bev) and Nora. He was predeceased by brothers-in-law Garnet Gompf and Wes Tolton and sister-in-law Lee Penner.
He graduated from the University of Manitoba Agriculture Degree program in 1967. His career took him to Teulon and then Russell as an Agricultural Representative for the province until retiring in 1995. He enjoyed connecting with community members and many became lifelong friends.
Special interests included coffee time, music and dancing, camping and baseball which he played until age 80. They also spent 19 winters in Arizona and travelled extensively, enjoying cruises and other adventures. Otto was also a card shark, puzzler and games lover, regularly participating at 65 Paget Street in Winnipeg where they moved in 2008. Both enjoyed Miller’s campground for many summers.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba or University of Manitoba Faculty of Agricultural and Food Sciences.
Celebration of life to be held on Saturday, February 14, 2026, at 11:00 a.m. at Charleswood United Church, 4820 Roblin Blvd.
