It is with great sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of Sommer Rose Dunn on January 25, 2026 in the loving arms of her family.
Sommer was light and love. She lit up every room she entered with her kindness, caring, humour, and charm. To know her was to immediately love her and she selflessly shared her heart, energy, laughter, and tears in return. She had a rare and beautiful gift of making everyone feel welcome and truly seen. Whether you were family, a lifelong friend, or a stranger she had just met - she embraced you with a warmth and kindness that was genuine and effortless.
Sommer’s passion and creativity shone through everything she did including as an exceptionally talented hairstylist and singer. She surrounded us all with music and her unbelievable voice that uplifted to the angels. To her clients she was more than a stylist – she was a confidante, a friend, and a bright light in their day. She took pride in helping others feel beautiful both inside and out.
Sommer is predeceased by her father, Brian Dunn and survived by her family: mother, Joanne Watts (Paul Riese); sisters Lezlee, Marnie (Ryan Chartrand), and Alexis; nieces Ashtyn and Reese; and her beloved cat Annabelle. She is also survived by Bryan Watts; Amanda Walford (David) and their children Livi and Lane; stepbrothers Jordan (Kathy) and Ryan Riese and their children Harper, Harrison and Charles. She will be profoundly missed by innumerable friends and family.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, April 17, 2026 at West St. Paul Access Recreation Centre, 48 Holland Rd, Rural Municipality of West St. Paul.

My writing falters not from a scarcity of words, but from their overwhelming quantity. Som came into my life like a tornado. Strong and kind, with a heart of gold. She was life and light, and a force of nature. She was late for every dang apt I ever had with her, including my wedding. I met her long ago; one of her best friends was(is) my brother Bruce. Sommer wasn't just a hair stylist; she was magic. I used to tell her, lets do something different, and I'd give her free rein. She never let me down. I trusted her that much. I've never been able to do that since I left Winnipeg. Since I left her. But Sommer was so much more than a stylist. She was the best stylist I've ever had; her talent is unparalleled. But it's the light she carried amongst the darkness that I will remember. She often came to my parents' house for dinner, where she always entertained us. I have so many stories; fighting in the parking-lot is definitely is up there. Her Tina Turner impressions, gosh, she had such talent. But my favourite story is Grandma's cake, with the cigarette ash. My brother Bruce will do a much better job telling this story. But Sommer knew how to tell a story, she made us all feel special to be in her life. And I was lucky to get to see a side of her most of her clients didn't. - Posted by: Vanessa Henry Miles (Friend) on: Feb 20, 2026
