Karen passed away peacefully on March 22, 2026, in Winnipeg.
She immigrated from Denmark as a child with her parents, Anna Garner and Bernhardt Kristensen. The youngest of five children, she was predeceased by her siblings, Peter, Sven, Henning, and Herdis; and by her husband, Nicola Alberto.
She lived in Libau, Winnipeg, and Richer, MB, and Calabria, Italy.
As a foster parent, she later took the greatest pride in her work in the Medicine and Dialysis Unit at Seven Oaks Hospital.
Karen leaves her children, Viola, Peter, and David (foster children, Diane, Melanie, and Danielle); her cherished granddaughter, Emily; and special friend Debra.
Special thanks to the Palliative Care Manitoba Program.

My heart dropped when I saw this today. Karen had been coming to my mind often the past few weeks. We knew each other as our families were joined together by Denmark. They stayed with my grandparents on their arrival in Canada. We were always together. I will miss her even though as adults we lost touch. My sympathy and love to all the family. - Posted by: Sherry Sorensen Funk (Childhood friend) on: Mar 28, 2026
