Peter Sokol passed away peacefully on Friday, April 3, 2026 at the age of 96 years.
Peter was born in Sandy Lake, Manitoba on June 20, 1929. He attended Rackham School and worked on the family farm until he moved to Winnipeg where he worked for the Canadian National Railway (CNR) for 32 years.
He is survived by his daughters, Glenda (Blaine) Abram, Karen (Darren) Horton; his two grandchildren, Marissa and Evan; his sisters, Jean (John) DeGroot, Stella Barrie and many nieces and nephews.
Peter was predeceased by his wife Jean (nee Valvich); his parents, Tekla and Steve; brothers, Paul, Fred, John; sisters, Ann Zatylny, Frances Ridley; sister-in-law Lil Sokal and brothers-in-law, Dan Zatylny and Jack Barrie.
A very special thank you to the staff at the Saul and Claribel Simkin Centre where he lived and called home for the past four and a half years. He was treated with great respect, dignity and love as was evident in the many Peter stories staff and residents shared with his daughters, Karen and Glenda.
Peter was a very special man. His love and memories will bless us all for a lifetime.
A private interment will be held at a later date.
