It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Alasdair Ross MacGillivray at the age of 92.
Left to cherish his memories are his wife Bonny-Ruth; daughter Veronica; son Richard (Wanda); stepdaughters Lorica (Gerard) and Patricia; his grandchildren, great-grandchildren and sisters Sheena, Frances, Phylis (John) and a brother John.
Alasdair was predeceased by his parents Jack and Jenny; his eldest son Alasdair Peter; his sisters Ishbelle and Jacqueline and granddaughter Carlye.
Al was born in Lewiston, Scotland. After graduating from high school, he started a five-year engineering apprenticeship at age 16, completing his apprenticeship at age 21. He joined the British Merchant Navy as a Marine Engineer, a wonderful experience. By age 22 he had sailed around the world. After 6 years at sea Alasdair decided to give up his Navy career and return to Scotland. For the next 7 years he worked in maintenance of Hydro equipment on power stations and dams.
In 1968, he moved to Winnipeg where he was employed at C.P. Rail as a Machinist, retiring in 1996.
Cremation has taken place. No funeral service to be held.
He will be laid to rest in the Garden of Lasting Memoires, Elevation F at Glen Lawn Cemetery.
