Bill was born on June 24, 1948, in Winnipeg, MB, and passed away April 25, 2026, in Brandon, MB.
He was predeceased by his loving wife, Diane McGuire; mother, Catherine Westland; and father, Ronald McGuire. He will be forever missed by daughters, Tammy (Todd) Maunder and Maureen (Warren) McDuffe; along with his five cherished grandchildren: Brynn, Kiera, and Finn Maunder, and Brady and Cole McDuffe. Bill leaves behind his brother, Bart (Sheri) McGuire; sister, Maureen (Richard) Harrison; and brother-in-law, Brian (Lucy) Fowler.
Bill and Diane met in Winnipeg and were married in 1971. In 1972, they moved to Brandon just after welcoming their first daughter, Tammy. Their second daughter, Maureen was born in 1975. Bill built a 35-year career with his last position in I.T. with the federal government. He was known for his dedication, steady presence, and the pride he took in his work.
Bill’s lifelong passion was trains. An avid model railroader, he found immense joy in building intricate layouts, collecting brass engines, and spending countless hours chasing trains across the prairies. His workshop and layout were places of creativity, patience and pure happiness, sharing it with family and friends. Through the Brandon Hills Model Railroad Club, he formed many lasting friendships with people who shared his enthusiasm.
One of Bill’s proudest moments in the last few years was taking Tammy and Maureen on a VIA Rail trip from Brandon to Vancouver - a journey filled with laughter, stories, and the kind of moments that will be remembered forever.
Bill also gave generously of his time, volunteering for many years at the Brandon Museum. He was active in the pulmonary hypertension community, supporting Diane with unwavering devotion throughout her illness.
Bill will be remembered for his gentle spirit, his witty humour, and the deep love he held for his family. The time he spent one-on-one with all his grandkids, from weekly suppers to FaceTimes, phone calls, and going to hockey and football games, will always be special. His legacy lives on in the memories he created, the friendships he nurtured, and the passion he shared so freely.
A private family gathering will take place.
