BRUCE HOKANSON

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Bruce Raymond Hokanson at the age of 79 on May 12, 2026, after a courageous battle with heart disease surrounded by the love of his family and with his loving wife by his side.

Left to cherish Bruce’s memory are his beloved wife of 56 years Brenda; his four children Amanda (John), Derek (Jackie), Jeremy (Jenn) and Andrea (Jason); as well as his seven grandchildren Abraham, Alexys, Emma, Noah, Ava, Hana and Brooke. Bruce was predeceased by his father Raymond and his mother Guertie.

Bruce was a member of the Winnipeg Police Service for 33 years. Bruce took immense pride in his career as a Police Officer and made many friendships that lasted well into his retirement. He especially looked forward to his Friday breakfast get togethers.

Bruce was a proud and loving father to his children, and his grandchildren were the apples of his eye. A very special memory is of all the many years camping together at Rushing River together, starting from when his kids were young and keeping the tradition which included all of his grandchildren all the way up to last summer.

Bruce was very involved in all of his grandchildren’s activities and attended as many events as he could. He was just so proud of them all.

Bruce along with Brenda were fortunate to be able to travel to various places with their family. A special highlight for Bruce was the two-month trip to Europe they took with Jack and Mary Lou. Bruce told stories about this trip to all of his family and friends many times over.

Bruce will be remembered at his happiest sitting in the sunroom with Brenda, having their pre-dinner happy hour, listening to the birds and enjoying their beautiful backyard.

Cremation has taken place, and in keeping with Bruce’s wishes, a private celebration of his life will be held at a further date.

The family would like to thank the staff at St. Boniface Hospital, especially the staff on ward 5B for their kind and compassionate care.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to D’Arcy’s Arc, if so desired.

  • Brenda and family.. I just learned of Bruce’s passing .. I can’t believe my old Drug Squad partner Hokie is gone. He was an exemplary police officer and a great partner who was always upbeat and ready for anything the streets threw at us. He was liked by everyone and was big, tough and smart.
