It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Marion Putnam (née Hickman) of Winnipeg, born on April 7, 1934, in Swan River, Manitoba, to Walter and Ann Hickman.
Marion leaves behind the love of her life, Don Putnam, her devoted husband of more than 71 years. She is also lovingly remembered by her daughters, Carla Cobb (Patrick) and Sandi Boult (Doug); her grandchildren, Alex Cobb (Brenna), Graham Cobb (Hannah), and Brittany Boult (Thomas); her cherished great-grandson, Miles; Don’s siblings, Isla and Bruce; sister-in-law Pat; and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Walter and Ann Hickman, and by her sister, Fran Hooper (Jack) of Edmonton.
Devoted to her faith and community, Marion was a longtime member of St. Mary Anglican Church and its Altar Guild. She worked part-time at Silver Heights Medical Clinic, where she formed many lasting friendships. Marion was a dedicated volunteer with Meals on Wheels and a proud member of the Grace Hospital Auxiliary.
Marion loved to travel, spend time in the sunshine, watch figure skating and curling, and, most of all, be with family. She treasured Sunday family dinners, time with loved ones, and many memorable trips, including visits to Hawaii and Montana to spend time with Carla and family. Known for her class and grace, Marion will be remembered for her gentle nature, kindness, thoughtfulness, pristine table settings, and unwavering love for her family. She lived by the Golden Rule - “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”—and treated everyone she met with kindness and respect.
The family would like to acknowledge Marion’s many cherished friends, including the Roslers, the Everaerts, the Gulays, Kim Esopenko, and her special niece, Debra Wilton. Kim held a particularly special place in Marion’s life and became like a third daughter to the family. Special thanks to the wonderful staff at Sturgeon Creek Retirement Residence and Calvary Place Personal Care Home for their fantastic care over the years.
Marion will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all who knew her.
