LORRAINE ELIZABETH FONTAINE

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Lorraine Elizabeth Fontaine of Winnipeg on June 16, 2026, at the age of 89, following a lengthy and courageous battle with dementia.

Lorraine will be deeply missed by her family and friends. She leaves behind her sister, Cecile (René), and her nephew, Moe (Karen). She was predeceased by her parents, Albert and Laura. At Lorraine's request, no service will be held.

Lorraine loved spending sunny days at Grand Beach, sitting in her customary spot with her large beach chair and radio. She also enjoyed traveling to faraway places with her nephew and friends. Gathering for lunches or dinners to celebrate special occasions and holidays was something she greatly delighted in. Lorraine was proud to have spent her entire career at Supercrete/Lafarge and always spoke fondly of the company and her coworkers.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of the Riverview Health Centre long-term care unit for their care and compassionate support. We are truly grateful.

Condolences & Memories (3 entries)

  • Cecile, my condolences to the family. I’m sure you remember me or at least the family name. My dad was Gaspard. Sister to Gaetane. I remember visiting your family numerous times. Had Lorraine been sick for a long time. I know her obituary said dementia. It is sad to lose a sibling. I have 3 sisters & my brother in the heavens. Again our sympathies & hope you are well. 🤗🤗♥️ - Posted by: Lise (Fontaine) (Cousin) on: Jun 21, 2026

  • Lorraine and l grew up together on Dumoulin St in St Boniface. We spent many happy years playing with other children starting in 1945 when l moved there with my family, well into our teen years and beyond. We kept in touch for years, but slowly contact became less frequent as life took us on separate paths. However, l have many fond memories of Lorraine and often thought of her. I send condolences to the family and especially to Cecile, her sister who l knew too. Sorry for your loss. - Posted by: Isla Devodder Touchette (Childhood friend) on: Jun 20, 2026

  • My deepest sympathies to my little cousine Cécile Fontaine for the loss of her older sister Lorraine. I am your little cousin through your grandmother Angélina (Girouard) Genest (1895-1976) who is my late father Adrien Girouard's 1st cousin (1921-1994). Your great grandfather Isidore Girouard (1871-1957) is a brother to my grandfather Narcisse Girouard (1866-1929). Your distant Girouard cousins will be thinking of you during this time. Repose-en-paix, la cousine. - Posted by: Richard Girouard (2nd cousin 1x removed.) on: Jun 20, 2026
