It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Lorne Alexander Beattie, a devoted husband, loving father, and cherished friend, who passed away peacefully on June 22, 2026, at the age of 92.
Lorne was born on March 11, 1934, growing up on Jubilee Ave. and spent his childhood exploring the growing city of Winnipeg and swimming in the Red River with his many friends and his brothers, Shaun and Aubrey. After working for Dominion Bridge and on the development of the Grand Rapids Dam, Lorne settled into a career with the City of Winnipeg, first as a residential property assessor, and later moving into commercial assessments. He married Polly, the love of his life in 1961 and together they raised their daughters, Angela and Cheryl in their beloved home on Cascade Bay.
Lorne enjoyed fishing in all seasons, long road trips, and building/repairing anything and everything in his home and garage workshops. He also liked to experiment with his second-hand kiln and the local Red River clay, providing plenty of entertainment for those of us witnessing his attempts at artistic creation. Lorne was also exceptionally supportive of his wife and daughters, ready and willing to help Polly with gardening and crafting tasks, and indulging his daughters in building everything from homemade slip and slides to backyard skating rinks, and installing trick doors within the basement he designed and developed from scratch.
Beyond being a wonderful husband and father, he was a devoted brother, uncle and friend. He found his greatest happiness in spending time with family, sharing stories, making us laugh, and creating memories that we will treasure forever.
We will miss his voice, his advice, his mischievous sense of humour, and the comfort of knowing he was always just a phone call away. Though our hearts are broken, we are grateful for every lesson he taught us and every moment we shared.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Annie Matilda and Walter Beattie, wife Pauline (Lupichuk) Beattie, and brothers, Shaun Beattie and Aubrey Beattie.
Lorne is survived by his daughters, Angela Beattie (Jon) and Cheryl Beattie. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces, Michael (Joanne), Scott (Denise), Callum (Catharine), Jo-Ann (Ken), Brian, Kimberley and Kelly.
A celebration of Lorne's life will be held on Monday, June 29, 2026 at 2:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. Family and friends are invited to gather and share memories as they honour a life well lived.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Heart & Stroke or Alzheimer Society or Holy Family Home in Lorne’s memory.
