KAREN LAURAINE HARGREAVES

The family of Karen Lauraine Hargreaves of Brandon, Manitoba, is saddened to share the news of her passing, which occurred on July 4th, 2026, at the age of 70 years at Rideau Park Personal Care Home, with family by her side.

Karen was born on November 15, 1955, the youngest of four children born to Bill and Florence Hargreaves. She grew up in Brandon Hills district and attended Brandon Hills School, J.R. Reid School, Earl Oxford School, and Neelin High School. Following graduation, she received her diploma in bookkeeping from Assiniboine College and worked for Dunwoody & Co. in Brandon.

Karen was an avid animal lover who especially enjoyed horseback riding. She had two budgies, Cricket and Rosie, and enjoyed visiting Colin and Shelly's farm to see the animals and spend time with family for special holidays and birthdays. Growing up, Karen was an active member of the 4-H Sewing Club. Over the years, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting special items for friends and family. She always looked forward to annual camping trips and adventures with friends to Clear Lake and Pelican Lake. Karen especially loved getting her hair done and going shopping. She was also recognized by the City of Brandon for her volunteerism. Despite facing mental health challenges throughout her life, Karen always had a kind, caring, and generous heart. She had a wonderful sense of humour and an infectious laugh.

Staying connected with family was important to Karen. She enjoyed visiting with loved ones, whether in person or by phone, and in the last few years she looked forward to weekly FaceTime chats with Bev and Ken.

Karen was predeceased by her parents, Bill and Florence Hargreaves. She is survived by her sister, Beverly (Roland) Beaulieu of Toronto, Ontario; her brother, Ken (Shirley) Hargreaves of Courtenay, British Columbia; and her brother, Colin (Shelly) Hargreaves of Brandon, Manitoba.

"Auntie Karen" will be dearly missed by her nieces and nephews: Jacqueline and Julie Beaulieu; Kelsey Hargreaves (Vojtech Balaban) and Heidi Hargreaves (Eric Van Buren); Brett (Haylee) Hargreaves, Dustin Hargreaves (Michelle Miller), and Lindsay Hargreaves (Troy Granger); as well as many great-nieces and great-nephews.

A private Celebration of Karen's Life will be held at a later date.

For those wishing, donations in Karen's memory may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association or to a charity of one's choice. Karen's family would like to sincerely thank the dedicated staff at Rideau Park Personal Care Home for their outstanding care and kindness.
