Connie McMillan passed away peacefully in Gimli, Manitoba, on July 7, 2026, at the age of 72, following a battle with dementia.
Connie was born in Miami, Manitoba, to Ackroyd and Elsie Turner and developed a lifelong love of nature, gardening, travel, and family. She attended Miami Collegiate and went on to train as a Licensed Practical Nurse, working in doctors’ offices and care homes. She later worked for the Brandon School Division, supporting students with special needs, and went on to complete her Prairie Horticulture Certificate through the University of Saskatchewan, putting her gardening skills to work in the tree section of The Green Spot in Brandon. Whether working with patients, students, or fellow gardeners, her kindness and gentle nature left an impression on everyone she met. Connie was happiest in the garden, singing with her choir or exploring new travel destinations. Above all, her family was her greatest pride, and she poured her heart into creating a loving home full of laughter and lively conversation.
Connie will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 50 years, Grant McMillan; her children, David McMillan (Rachael Kroeker) and Kristina McMillan Schwartz (Flint Schwartz); and her granddaughter, Mina. She is also survived by her siblings, Lynn Cawley, Bill Turner, Jim Turner, Colleen Wallace, and Bob Turner, as well as many extended family members and friends whose lives she touched deeply.
A small celebration of Connie’s life will be held in the fall, with details to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Connie’s memory to your charity of choice.
