NADIA PANKIEWICH

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our dear mother, Nadia Pankiewich, at the age of 80. She was reunited with dad, Rudy Pankiewich, on June 25, 2026.

Mom was born in 1946 in Vita, Manitoba to Jack and Margaret Baryliuk and grew up on the family farm near Vita alongside her brother, Jarvis, where early responsibilities shaped her strong work ethic and determination. In her early adult years, mom moved to Winnipeg to work at Eatons Mail Order, returning home on weekends to help on the farm.

In 1967, she married Rudy Pankiewich, and together they built their first home and settled near Steinbach in 1974. In 1979, mom became the first female bus driver with the Hanover School Division - a role she proudly held for 31 years until her retirement in 2010. Her long career reflected her persistence and commitment to showing up, day after day, in all types of weather conditions.

Outside of work, mom and dad enjoyed travelling, visiting various tropical destinations and countries across Europe. They also enjoyed camping, fishing, playing cards and exploring the countryside on their scooters. Her life was shaped by resilience, independence, and a determination that carried her through many difficult chapters.

She will be mourned by her girls, Karen Bouvier (Marc) and Kelly Pankiewich; grandchildren, Brityn (Gabby), Blanca, Ella and Layla. She also leaves behind her brother, Jarvis Baryliuk (Henriette) and four nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her husband Rudy Pankiewich; her parents, Margaret and Jack Baryliuk; her son-in-law Marc Bouvier; and numerous members of her extended family.

Funeral service will be held on September 12, 2026 at 1:00 pm at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach.

If friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association, Manitoba and Winnipeg in memory of Rudy Pankiewich.
