Don Johnston, husband, father, brother, relative and friend to many, died on August 4, 2026. Don was 75 years old, had lived a good life and went in peace to his maker. When he passed, he was surrounded by friends and family who loved him and will always miss him.
Don was born and grew up in Winnipeg. He attended Churchill High School, where virtually everyone there knew him as "Junker" - the funniest guy in the class. He made everyone laugh.
From Winnipeg he moved to Brandon to attend Brandon University. That was where he met his first wife, Bonnie, and why he never moved away. He and Bonnie had two sons: Graham and Glen and now have two grandsons. Bonnie pre-deceased him.
In the early part of this century, he encountered an old high school friend - Karen. In 2006, he and Karen married.
Don worked for the provincial government until he retired. He has always been a part of the community, whether it be attending St. Andrew's Presbyterian Church, or being one of the weekly coffee guys. When a local charity needed some help, Don was glad to step in and help.
His funeral will take place on Friday, August 7, 2026, at 2:00 p.m. at. St. Matthew's Cathedral, Brandon, Manitoba. All are welcome.

I met Don about 8 years ago working with George Strange. Him and Jack quickly became my friends through their frequent coffee breaks at the shop. There wasn’t a day I saw Don where he didn’t put a smile on my face. He always took the time to chat, ask how I was doing, and never took a cup of coffee without saying thank you and asking if I was having some too. I eventually had to move on from the store but stopped in a few months ago and happened to catch him. He hugged me, asked how I was doing, expressed his excitement to see me, and told me he was proud of me but that he missed me. I missed him too. I miss talking to him and even making him his cup of joe. He never complained about the coffee even though I had no idea what I was doing! I am forever grateful to know and love Don. My condolences to his family and friends. - Posted by: Gabby Beaubier (Friend) on: Aug 05, 2026

We met Don for the first time after his mother Pat passed away in 2017. We were close neighbors to the Johnson clan since the early 70's. I recall whenever Don passed thru Winnipeg, he would drop by and spend an evening indulging in our finest beverage and discussing the worlds problems which were partially solved when Don left the next morning. Your work on this planet is now complete Don. Rest in Peace my friend. - Posted by: Roger Leuzinger (Friend) on: Aug 05, 2026
