Mom was born in Brandon and raised on the family farm south of Rapid City. She was the only girl in a family of four older brothers.
To complete high school she moved to Brandon and then went on to complete Normal School to become a teacher. She began her teaching at a country school south of Minnedosa. During this time she met Harvey Bertram. After they were married they settled first in Kemany and then to Brandon where she taught at Fleming until she became a stay at home mom.
She was a longtime member of the Eastern Star and White Shrine and enjoyed golfing and was proud of her hole in one.
A few years after our dad's passing in 2004, Mom fell in love again with Eric Stanzeleit and eventually they married. The two of them enjoyed travelling and going to restaurants and casinos until Eric's passing in 2024.
Bernice is survived by son Ken, daughter Christie (Gary) and grandson Dylan (Amber), sister-in-law Betty Bertram and many nephews and nieces.
She was predeceased by parents, Duncan and Alma McLean, in-laws, James and Minnie Bertram, husband Harvey Bertram, second husband Eric Stanzeleit, brothers, Harold, Olie (Margaret), George (Jean), Albert (May), brother-in-law Claire Bertram and nephews, Harold and Wayne McLean.
Thank you Gary for all your help these last couple of years, it has been appreciated. Thanks also to our cousins for always making Mom feel special, and our friends for all your kindness.
A family gathering was held at Clear Lake on June 27th in Mom's memory.
