RICHARD ATAMANCZUK

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Richard Atamanczuk on September 6, 2026. He was our Dad, Grandpa and Great-Grandpa, better known to many as Pa.

Richard was born April 29, 1931, and raised in Brandon's North End. He played hockey throughout his youth, which took him to Scotland and across the USA with his young bride, Jacquie (Moore) Atamanczuk. Returning to Brandon, he was employed by the City of Brandon for 38 years. His passion came when his good friend Morris Earl asked him to help rebuild Glen Lea Golf Course. He spent over 30 years cutting fairways, golfing and visiting with the golfers, and he took great pride in this.

Dad also loved being a Wheat Kings billet family, starting in 1960. He kept in contact with his first billet, Gary McAlpine, for over 65 years.

A devoted son to his mother, Stella (Shadlock) Atamanczuk, Dad helped build and take care of her cabin at Sandy Lake. In her later years, he made daily visits to her until her passing.

Dad travelled a lot with Mom to California, Texas and Hawaii.

Pa had a special love for each of his grandsons equally, but his relationship with each of them was unique.

Dad had the best neighbours. They enjoyed countless happy hours, always helping each other out, with Dad giving them all advice, whether they needed it or not. They watched over him very carefully, and we will always be grateful. He loved you all.

In his last ten years, he went out for coffee daily with Ron Wood, Norm Vierboon and "The Coffee Crew." He loved these outings. A lot of BS, of course, but mostly fun and laughter.

Another group of special people were those who picked him up most Saturdays to take him to the Legion. He enjoyed the "Great" company, playing the slots, and was sometimes lucky enough to win at the meat draw. Thank you so much, Dennis Lenton and everyone who made those Saturdays so special.

Dad made the decision to go to Hillcrest Nursing Home four years ago, where he thrived. It was a wonderful move. He had his daily beer and made many friends among the residents, staff and family members. He made the best of every day there. The Hillcrest Family became his family.

Dad is survived by daughters, Ricki (Donnie) Woods and Sherri (Dale) Atamanczuk; three grandsons, Jesse (Anita) Romine, Tyler Woods and Stefan (Brittni) Woods; five great-grandchildren, Nico Cloud, Stella Romine, Zuri Woods, Layton Woods and Lily Woods; and sister Doreen English (affectionately known as Pop).

Dad's heart was truly broken with the loss of his loving wife, Jacquie, and it happened again with the loss of his son-in-law, Lyle Romine, and then his daughter, Terrie Lynn Romine (affectionately known as Honey). He never did get over her loss and always said that no parent should lose a child, no matter how old you are. He was also preceded in death by his brother-in-law, John English.

You have been a pillar of our family. We will all continue to do good for you. We thank you for everything you have done for us. We love you so very much and miss you dearly already.

Our memories will always be "beautiful."
