With deep sadness, the family announces the passing of R. Gregory “Greg” Hurl, aged 69 years, on Saturday, October 3, 2026 at the Brandon Regional Health Centre.
Greg was born in Brandon on September 2, 1957, and grew up as the second youngest of seven children. From an early age, he stood out as a gifted athlete in everything he tried - from soccer and road hockey to baseball, where he especially excelled. Many friendships and memories were made while attending George Fitton, McLaren, Harrison, and Crocus Plains Schools.
Over the years, Greg worked at Premier Leasing, Nissan, and later became the owner of Hurl’s Food Mart East End. Even in early retirement, Greg stayed active, helping his buddies - Al at Custom Tarps & Filters and Ryan at Brandon Windshield Repair.
Greg loved his family and spending time with friends. Some of his happiest moments were camping, hunting, golfing, playing baseball, listening to music, enjoying his “skinny beers,” and hanging out at the “garage” & shack - places where many good times were had.
Greg will be deeply missed by his children: Leanne (Mark) Chartrand, Glen (Ashley) Hurl, and Jodi (Troy) Bickerton, grandchildren: Cordell, Jordanna, Hunter, Dylan, Ashton, Maurice, Madison, Lena, Brielle, Dawson, Jager, and Bayne. He is also survived by his siblings: Don, Garth, Murray (Georgie), Pat (Karen), and Pam Hurl, as well as many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents, Roy and Doreen Hurl, his sister and brother-in-law Faye (Barry) Eyford, sister-in-law Mary Hurl, niece Kirsten Hurl, and grandson Mason Hurl.
The Celebration of Greg’s Life will take place at the Victoria Inn – Imperial Ballroom, 3550 Victoria Avenue, Brandon on Friday, October 16 from 3:00 pm to 6:00 pm with a Time of Remembrances at 4:00 pm.
