WILLIAM ARTHUR (BILL) BOIVIN
Date of Passing: Dec 13, 1999
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryWILLIAM ARTHUR (BILL) BOIVIN Bill passed away Monday, December 13, 1999 in Red Deer Regional Hospital Centre, Red Deer, AB, after his short battle with cancer. Survived by his loving wife Ruth of Red Deer; his son David (Marlen), of Seattle, Wash.; his two daughters, Jill (Joby) of Flin Flon, MB and Robyn of Winnipeg, MB.; and grandchildren, Jan, Lindsay, Leah, and Bryan. Also survived by his sisters, Gertie Sonnichsen of Kleefeld, MB, Zella Rieu of Port Coquitlam, BC, Bernice Walters of Winnipeg; Muriel Moran of Anola, MB; and brother Rodger Boivin of Port Coquitlam, BC; and many nieces, nephews who mourn the loss. Predeceased by his mother; father; brothers, Jim, Gordon, Jack, and Richard; sisters, Georgina and Connie. Bill was born in 1934 and lived in the St. Charles area through his school and early adult years. With a deep passion and natural ability for many sports, Bill excelled at whatever sport he put the equipment on for. His favourites were hockey, baseball and golf. "Scooter" Boivin played hockey for the Winnipeg Barons and Pine Falls Paper Kings and in the 1954-55 season went to play for the Dundee Tigers in Scotland. After hockey and working in the Pine Falls paper mill, Bill operated the Phantom Lake Golf Course in Flin Flon as their Golf Professional for six years. He was an outstanding player/teacher and his respect and etiquette for the game encouraged many new young golfers to participate and learn his favourite game. He then went to Alberta where he coordinated the parks and recreational facilities around the Red Deer area. Discussing sports with Bill was like having a sport statistic encyclopedia at your fingertips. He had a memory for names and dates reflecting the many years of love and admiration for sports in Canada and abroad, yet always remained modest about his own significant accomplishments and recognitions. No more green fees, Dad. We will miss you and your unique way. Shine now in the light of Gods love. In accordance to his wishes, cremation has taken place and no service will be held.

My mother took pride in being Billy's Godmother. Time and distance separated her from Billy, but she still kept his pictures in the old family album. She passed away back in 2008. RIP William Bovin - Posted by: Ron Ketcheson (Son of William's God Mother, Lorraine Hearn) on: Aug 08, 2021
