EVA ROSE HALLIKAS (nee GRACEFFO) It is with profound sadness that we announce the death of Eva Rose Hallikas on Wednesday, December 15, 1999 at La Verendrye General Hospital in Fort Frances, ON. She passed away peacefully surrounded by the love of her family. Eva was predeceased by her husband Ollie in 1992; her parents, Serafina and Leonardo Graceffo; and her brothers, Charles and James. She is survived by her children, Andrew (Debbie), Maryellen Clinckett (John), and Nancy Gillon (Geoff) six grandchildren, Andrew, Lindsey, Sarah, Oliver, Jackson, and Sydney; brothers, Frank, Emil, Samual, Joseph, and Leonard and sisters, Florence, Mafalda, Maria, and Helen; as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Eva was born November 16, 1919 in Winnipeg, MB and came to Fort Frances as a young woman. On September 4, 1947, she was united in marriage to Eino Olavi (Ollie) Hallikas, and together they celebrated life for 42 years. Eva led a fulfilling life and gave freely of her time and resources. She was an intelligent and creative businesswoman and was a mentor to many. She successfully established and operated the well known Tiny Tot Shop for 26 years. In 1974, she was chosen as Woman of the Year by the Business and Professional Womens Club of Fort Frances. She was a strong member of the hospital auxiliary and willingly donated countless hours to the cause. She was a major force in the success of the hospital gift shop. In 1998, she was made a lifetime member of the hospital auxiliary. Eva also was an active and devoted member of the Zion Lutheran Church. Over the years, she had many interests, including curling, her bridge club, baking her famous coffee bread, and most important - her grandchildren. Her eyes would sparkle and her arms would open wide whenever she saw them. Eva was a devoted and proud mother, and guided her children with love and strength. She was a true and loyal friend, and touched many lives. She had an incredible strength of character, was quick to laugh, and was always "on the go." Everyone loved Eva and she will be greatly missed. We love you, Mom. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 18 at Zion Lutheran Church in Fort Frances. Pastor Brian Keffer and Pastor Bob Ek officiated with interment in Riverview Cemetery in Fort Frances.
