JOHN "JACK" BARLOW HAMILTON Peacefully in the seventh hour of October 7, 2000, after a lengthy illness, Jack Hamilton passed away at the age of 79. Selfless, proud, dutiful, he was a true son of the prairie whose entire life was entwined with the land and people of Manitoba. Born in Winnipeg on June 27, 1921, Jacks boyhood friends from Beaverbrook St. were always close by throughout his life. He served his country with honour as an artificer in the Royal Canadian Nave, 1942 - 1945. After the war, he returned home and joined the Winnipeg Grain Exchange. A man of the highest integrity in all his affairs, Jack was a fixture on the trading floor for more than 30 years. In retirement, he took great pleasure in his role as gentleman farmer on his farm near Elm Creek. He lived to see one last harvest and now the crop is in. Three generations mourn his passing. He is survived by Wilma, his devoted wife of 44 years; four children, James, John, Neil and Joan; sister Margaret Yeats; two grandchildren, Maxine and Sonia Hamilton; and numerous brothers- and sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his brother, James, who was lost at sea in the first months of the Second World War, and by his parents, Walter and Lily Hamilton. The family wishes to express its gratitude to all the staff of Tower 7 at Deer Lodge Centre for their compassion and kindness during his hours of need. Thanks is extended also to the Lions Club Daycare Centre at both the Downtown and Charleswood locations for their kindness to Jack. Cremation has taken place and a graveside service will be held at a future date. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to the Alzheimers Society of Canada, 120 Donald Street, Winnipeg, MB., R3C 4G2.
