MINNIE McINTYRE (nee BLACKMAN) July 27, 1904 - December 26, 2000 Peacefully in her sleep Mother left us to be with Dad (Finlay) in the early evening of December 26, 2000, at the age of 96. Minnie was born to Thomas and Harriett Blackman in Battle, Sussex, on July 27, 1904, the youngest of nine children. She was predeceased by her three brothers and five sisters. Minnie came to Winnipeg during the 20s to be with her sister Lily who had married a young Winnipegger, Alec Smith, and she settled in to live with them. She soon thereafter met the love of her life, Finlay, at Walter Spences Bible Class. Dad used to love to tell the story that the first time he saw her there he said immediately to his nearest friend, "Thats the girl Im going to marry!" And marry her he did, at St. Patricks Anglican Church on September 7, 1935. There began almost 53 years of love and devotion that radiated to all who knew or came in contact with them. In the early years Mom worked as a dental assistant with Dr. J. G. Elsey. During the Second World War, Dad was stationed in Ottawa and we moved there to be with him. Returning to Winnipeg in 1947, Dad commenced work with Dominion Electric Protection and Mom was employed as a sales clerk at Eatons. They remained in Winnipeg for 13 years during which time they were dedicated members of St. Margarets Anglican Church and subsequently St. James Anglican Church. Mother was also a devoted member of the Rebekah Lodge while at the same time Dad was a member of the Oddfellows Lodge. In 1960, Dad was transferred to Toronto where he was appointed Secretary of the company in which position he served until his retirement. They made many friends in their new home city, taking an active role in the life of Grace Church and joining a lawn bowling club together. A highlight of their time in Toronto was the celebration of their 50th Wedding Anniversary in 1985 which was attended by a host of friends and followed by a dinner for close friends and family over which they presided. Minnie was a devoted mother, grandma and great-grandma and leaves to treasure her memory her only son David (Colleen) grandchildren, Catharine, Geoffrey (Jill), Sharon and great-granddaughter Jessica; niece Helen Plested and nephew Murray (Margaret) Smith, who were very special to her, as well as many other nieces and nephews; also her surrogate family Joan, Larry, Susan, Trudy, Lynne and Joanne, all of whom she loved dearly and all who showed her great love, affection and kindness throughout the many years they knew her. The family particularly wishes to thank Susan for her constant love, care and attention to her "Aunty Min." Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway, at 3:30 p.m. on December 29. The family wishes to thank the staff at the Maples Personal Care Home for their kindness and service to Minnie during the time she was there. Flowers are gratefully declined. Those who wish may make a donation in Minnies memory to the charity of their choice. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
