Edward will be sadly missed and lovingly remembered by his wife of 52 years, Stefania; his two children, Wanda (Egon) Hartwich and Ted (Louise) and five grandchildren, Bridget (Grant), Richard (Shannon), David (Glenda), Nathalie and Katryna. Edward was born in Wilno, Poland on April 23, 1916; the area is now part of Lithuania. He served in the Polish army in the Second World War and was a POW for three years at Astashkof, Kasastan and Siberia. He was very proud of his involvement in the battles at Monte Casino, Italy, where the Polish flag was the first to fly when they fought along British and French troops to recapture it from enemy troops. The war ended when Edward was still in Italy and he chose to emigrate to England and then Winnipeg. There, he met Stefania Kaczmarek, married, had two children and now five grandchildren. He worked at Hurst Engineering and Construction Co. where he was employed for over 30 years. He enjoyed working in his garden, spending time with his family and visiting the Legion. As his youngest granddaughter said, "He is now in our hearts."
