Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryMARY GEORGINA VICTORIA BRAYSHAY Peacefully, after a short illness, on August 4, 2001, Mary died at St. Boniface Hospital. Predeceased by her husband Roy in 1976, she leaves to mourn her son Rowland; daughter Susan; son-in-law Walter Murray and grandchildren Ruth and Evan Murray. Mary was born in Winnipeg February 9, 1917 to John and Elizabeth Hick. Following the untimely death of her father during the 1918 flu epidemic, Mary lived in England with her paternal grandparents. Accompanied by her Aunt Sarah, she returned to her mother in Winnipeg four years later to start school. Following graduation from Kelvin High School in 1934 and attending business college, Mary worked at Eastman-Kodak and Blue Cross. She was proud of being the first person to open the doors to Blue Cross when it came to Winnipeg. In 1948 she married Roy Brayshay and turned her attentions to raising a family. Victoria Beach held a very special place in Marys heart. She spent happy summers there during her teens and it was there some years later that she met Roy. They bought the cottage in 1958 and spent many happy summers on the beach and playing golf. In later years it became a haven for reading and enjoying "goodies" from the bakery. Marys generosity was demonstrated by the way she opened her home to nieces and other family members when they came into Winnipeg. She was Aunt Mary to many of their friends. Mary also contributed to many different charities. Marys struggle with Alzheimers Disease over the past couple of years was made more tolerable by Lita, Pat and Monica from Home Care. We thank them for giving her the opportunity to remain with her memories in her own home. We would also like to thank the medical and nursing staff of 7A South at St. Boniface Hospital. Their gentle care of Mary throughout the last week of her life ensured that her death was peaceful, comfortable and dignified. Their value in supporting our family in handling grief and difficult decisions is immeasurable. According to Marys wishes, cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 21 at 11:00 a.m. in Thomson Funeral Chapels, 669 Broadway. There will be a private family interment prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, friends may make a donation to their favourite charity if desired. THOMSON FUNERAL CHAPELS 783-7211
