THELMA BOWERING Peacefully, with her children, Evelyn and Richard; and daughter-in-law Sharon at her side, Thelma Bowering (nee Ferguson) aged 83 years, passed away on July 26, 2002, at Calvary Place, Winnipeg. Raised in Winnipeg, Thelma moved to Victoria as a young bride, raising her six children there together with her loving husband Reg, who predeceased her in 1981. Thelma loved life and lived it to the full, sharing her vibrant joyful spirit with all who knew her, family and friends alike. She focused her time and energy on creating a home for her family. Especially gifted in relating to young people, Thelma committed herself to youth ministry, considering it her "calling". Regs career took Thelma and her family to Washington, DC in 1963, where they lived for 12 years, broadening their horizons through new experiences and international friendships. Reg and Thelma retired together to Victoria in 1975, where they reconnected with their beloved Glad Tidings Church, and continued to offer compassionate service and loyalty to their faith community. Thelma excelled in creating a warm family home, where all were welcome. She loved gardening, and spent many enjoyable hours nurturing her flowers and plants into a colourful display each year. Thelma was a fine seamstress, with a designers flare for style and fashion. Naturally talented musically, she shared her passion for music with her children, who all love to sing and play a range of musical instruments. A committed faithful mother, who loved God and taught her children the values of generosity, integrity, loyalty, and dedication to the task at hand, Thelma will always be loved and honoured in the memory of her children and their families. Her children include Clifford, his wife Orma, and their children, Julie and Geoff; Evelyn and her children, Melissa, Paul, Kristen, and Andrew; Richard and his wife Sharon, and their children, John, Catherine, and Matthew; Sylvia and her husband Robert, and their children, Benjamin and Caroline; Ted and his wife Lilly, and their children, Julia, Elisabeth, Anne and Michael; and Robert and his wife Molly and their children, Karly, Benjamin, and Carolyn. Thelma is also survived by her older sister Verda; brothers-in-law, Herbert and Melvin; six great-granddaughters; as well as many nieces and nephews and their families. Funeral services will be held at Glad Tidings Church, Victoria, BC on August 19 at 11:30 a.m. with Rev. Ron Michalski officiating. Thelma will be laid to rest at Hatley Park Memorial Gardens, together once again with her dear husband Reg. NEIL BARDAL INC. 949-2200
