JOHN ROBERT PRINCE Second World War Veteran April 8, 1918 - September 17, 2002 Mr. John Prince, aged 84 years, passed away peacefully at the Deer Lodge Centre in Winnipeg, MB on Tuesday, September 17, 2002. He was a direct descendant of Chief Peguis. He was predeceased by his wife Martha (nee Arkinson) his father Robert Prince and his mother Margaret Prince (nee Pierre) his brothers, Lawrence Prince, Wilfred Prince and Roy Prince; his sisters, Beatrice Abraham, Helen Starr and his adopted sister Helen Jane Boyd. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Howard Arkinson (Stepson), Robert Prince and Gladys, Caroline Bruyere and Rick, Clarence Prince and Lorraine, Susan Prince and Doug, Franklin Prince and Doreen; his special relatives, Shebahkeget; 43 grandchildren and great-grandchildren; his special nephews and nieces, Walter Prince, Perry Fontaine, Doug Starr, Valerie Fisher, Patsy Fontaine and Arthur Kent;and his special friend Conrad Henderson; numerous nephews, nieces and cousins. J.R. served with the Queens Own Cameron Highlanders. Private J.R. Prince was a true warrior, who descends from a long line of warriors. There were 23 Princes who enlisted in the Second World War from Manitoba and Ontario. They and many other soldiers freed Western Europe from tyranny. Wake will be held at the Christ Anglican Church from Wednesday, September 18. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, September 21 at 2:00 p.m. at the Christ Anglican Church with Rev. Andrew Sinclair officiating. There will be a traditional ceremony and a sacred fire is burning. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Harlan Bruyere will be the Eagle Staff Bearer. Pallbearers will be Dwight Bruyere, Jeff Bruyere, Greg Prince, Steven Prince, Burton Bruyere and Frank Seymour. A tree will be planted to honour the life of John Robert Prince.   • I remember one Christmas, he said to me, "Clarence, get me a drink?" I quickly mixed him a rum and coke and told him Clarence was my dad.
