ELSIE BOUCHIE Peacefully on Monday, December 2, 2002 at St. Boniface Hospital, Elsie Bouchie passed away after a courageous battle with cancer. Elsies numerous achievements included a bush camp cook, a school breakfast program coordinator and Hudson Bay employee. Elsie was also a nutritional health advisor for the Frontier School Division. Elsie went on to be the first female chief of the Berens River First Nation and a long-time band councillor, throughout this time successfully maintaining her household and raising five children. Elsie lived life to the fullest. She treated everyone with open arms, loved to laugh and joke around. She leaves to cherish her beautiful memory her husband Peter; children, Gibson (Honey), Stella, Suzie (Keith), Dennis (Selena) and Steve (Cara) grandchildren, Roxy, Brandon, Courtney, Alana, Harley, Lindsay, Sonya, Dixie, Becky, Myles, Peter, Quaid, Quintelle, Joel, Gerome and Corinna. Prayers were said on Tuesday, December 3 from 8:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Aboriginal Funeral Chapel, 724 Selkirk Ave. at Parr, Winnipeg. Wake services were held on Wednesday, December 4, and will also be held Thursday, December 5 and Friday, December 6 at Berens River. Funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 7 at 2:00 p.m. at the Berens River United Church, with Rev. Roy Bouchie officiating. Interment to follow at Berens River Cemetery.
