TILLIE (TOBY ANN) BOOK It is with great sadness that Tillie (Toby Ann) Book passed away on Saturday, January 11, 2003 at the Sharon Home in Winnipeg. Tillie was predeceased by her husband of 27 years, Dr. Norman Book, a Winnipeg-based pediatrician and a co-founder of the Mall Medical Group. She is survived by her daughter Bonni of Winnipeg; son and daughter-in-law Dr. Howard and Linda Book (Toronto) grandsons, Josh and Adam (Toronto) brother Andrew Schwartz (Winnipeg) and sister and brother-in-law Dolly and Bernie Cooperman (St. Catharines, ON). She was predeceased by her sister and brother-in-law Eve and Nate Arkin and sister-in-law Lillian Schwartz. Tillie is also survived by many nieces and nephews and also predeceased by many of Normans family as well, and cousins. Tillie grew up in the North End of Winnipeg and graduated from St. Johns High School as Valedictorian. After entering the business/private sector, she married Norman and relocated to River Heights. After Normans death, she re-entered the workforce at a managerial level at Holt Renfrew, North Star Inn and 9th Cloud. Tillie was an avid bridge player, read books thoroughly, active member of Glendale Golf and Country Club, an involved volunteer with Hadassah-Wizo, and a dedicated member of the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue. Tillie was a very good bowler and was a patron of the arts, symphony, ballet and the theatre. When her children were young she volunteered at the St. Boniface Hospital. Norman and Tillie vacationed in Miami, Florida for many winters. Shortly afterward they travelled in Europe. In the summer time, they spent many enjoyable times at Gimli, Winnipeg Beach, Clear Lake and visits to New York. After retiring from the workforce, Tillie entered university to study French. The family would like to extend their thanks to the Sharon Home, with special consideration to nurses Darlene Palidwor, Helen Willison, Cheryl Bell, Patti and Melitta. A very heartfelt thanks to Lindell McDonald, Tillies kind, caring, compassionate and devoted companion in the final years of her life. Lindell took care of so many things in Tillies life that are too numerous to mention. Also thanks to Procela Arceo for her companionship over the past two years. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimers Society of Manitoba. Funeral services took place on Sunday, January 12, 2003 at the Shaarey Zedek Synagogue and Cemetery. Shiva (evening prayers) will take place at the Fairmont Hotel, Tuesday, January 14 at Room 704 between 7:00 and 9:00 p.m. Do not stand at my grave and weep; I am not there. I do not sleep. I am a thousand winds that blow. I am the diamond glints on snow. I am the sunlight on ripened grain. I am the gentle autumns rain. When you awaken in the mornings hush, I am the swift uplifting rush Of quiet birds in circled flight. I am the soft stars that shine at night. Do not stand at my grave and cry; I am not there. I did not die. I am Free.
