Date of Passing: Apr 16, 2003
Send Flowers to the Family Offer Condolences or MemoryRUDOLPH MARTIN OZOL After a lengthy illness, Rudy died peacefully at the Selkirk General Hospital on April 16, 2003. Rudy and his beloved twin sister, Anna, were born in 1921 in Libau, MB into a large Latvian family, the youngest of six children. Rudy lived in the original family home until failing eyesight caused him to move into the Woodland Courts in Selkirk in October 2000. While reluctant to leave his home, he made new friends and enjoyed his new home. Rudy was a favourite with staff and residents with his cheerful smile, ready wit and independent spirit. Rudy enjoyed playing the violin and banjo in his younger days and playing cards and games, especially cribbage. As a welder, he had built farm trailers and other equipment with skill and pride. In later years, as a hobby, he made lamps, birdhouses, etc., many of which he gave away to others. He enjoyed his trips to Arizona when his brother Al was alive. He kept track of the latest world news and read the daily paper even when impaired eyesight made this difficult. He worked as a welder and a heavy equipment operator for the C.N. in British Columbia where he soon developed a reputation for operating any mechanical equipment with precision and skill even in the difficult mountain terrain. He worked in Winnipeg for several construction companies and as a welder for Abex in Selkirk. In later years, he drove a school bus for the Lord Selkirk School Division, retiring in 1986. Predeceased by his brothers, Walter and Alfred; and sisters, Erna and Anna, Rudy leaves his brother Victor (Hilda) of Niagara Falls, sister-in-law Gloria of Red Deer and brother-in-law Karl Haakonsholm; nieces, Donna, Darlene, Sharon, Berit, Joann and Beverly; and nephew Erik. He also leaves his special cousin Margaret Teichrob who was a great support to him during his illness. We are grateful for the loving care and attention provided by Dr. N. Antonenko and the Selkirk Home Care staff and the staff of the Selkirk General Hospital. Donations may be made to CancerCare Manitoba, 675 McDermot Ave., R3E 0V9 or a charity of your choice. Cremation has taken place. Memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 19 at 11:00 a.m. in Christ Church, 227 McLean Ave., Selkirk. Burial will take place in the Lindenbergh family plot in Libau at a later time. Gilbart Funeral Home, Selkirk in care of arrangements.
