FREDERICK DAVID BOWLES After a long courageous battle peacefully on Wednesday, January 7, 2004 in the presence of loving family, Fred Bowles passed away. Fred was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Katherine Bowles; and by his older brother Charles. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Vera; and his two children, Garry (Terry) and Don (Val) grandchildren, Scott, Ainsley, Michelle, Jay and Carla; as well as sisters, Helen Wickens and Vee Wardell. Fred was born in Treherne, MB on April 6, 1923 and moved to Winnipeg in 1940. On October 2, 1943 Fred and Vera were married at the family farm. His working life of 47 years included the Armed Forces, Derby Manufacturing Ltd., Bridge and Tank Western, and his favourite, as head custodian at Robert H. Smith School. Upon retirement, he was asked to be the committee for Donald Vennard (Veras cousin). He performed this responsibility diligently until Donalds death in 2002. His many interests and hobbies included a love of music (singing, dancing, guitar and piano). He also loved sports, playing hockey in his youth, umpiring little league baseball, curling and bonspieling, and in his later years, a home television curling analyst. He was a lifetime member of the Fort Rouge Legion and enjoyed many great times there with his wife Vera and many friends. He also enjoyed many games of pool with his cronies and many cups of coffee with them at Robins. Freds family would like to thank Dr. Ray Singer and the many staff at the Victoria General Hospital, who took such great care of him. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 10 at 3:00 p.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave. Reception will follow.
