MADELEINE POITRAS (nee PAINCHAUD) Madeleine passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 20, 2004 at the St. Boniface Hospital at the age of 84 years. She is predeceased by her husband Theodore Poitras as well as by her parents, Eugene and Maria (Arnal) Painchaud; her sisters, Marie Saquet, Marcelle Piche, Therese Piche; and her brothers, Henri, Raymond, Andre, Clement, Gustave. She is survived by sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Cecile Painchaud, Jeanne Albert, Yvonne Piche, Marguerite Piche, Paul and Lucie Poitras, Claire Andre, Therese Beaulieu, Bill and Cecile Richter, Simone Lavoie, Gerard and Hilda Poitras as well as her numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Although she and Theodore were not blessed with children, Madeleine loved and cared for many nieces and nephews over the years, like a second mother. She comforted them all in her famous rocking chair. She was always ever willing to help out her extended family in any capacity, always there for anyone in need. She worked as a waitress at the Fannystelle Hotel for 20 years. She always enjoyed meeting people. Ahead of her time, Madeleine kept fit by exercising, walking, doing yoga and lifting weights well before they became the current rage. Large gardens and canning were always a part of her life. An excellent baker, you could always count on cake, squares or some of her cookies - guaranteed to satisfy the sweetest tooth. A sweetie herself, she had a beautiful smile which lit up her face and charmed those who knew her. She will be sorely missed by all. Over the years, through World Vision, she and Theodore educated and cared for seven foster children. Prayers will be held Friday, January 23 at 7:00 p.m. with viewing at 6:30 p.m. in P.
