OLOF (RAE) RAKEL BOTH Olof (Rae) Rakel Both, left us on the morning of January 27, 2004. She died peacefully in her sleep at her home in Langley, BC. Mom was born in Winnipeg, MB on August 14, 1913. She was one of seven children born to Benedikt and Sigridur Rafnkelsson. The family moved to the Icelandic community of Hekla Island on Lake Manitoba, where they fished and farmed for a living. When Mom grew up, she moved to the city, Winnipeg. There she met and fell in love with her future husband, Arthur William Both. They were married in the summer of 1948 at the First Lutheran Church on Victor and were a part of that congregation for 36 years. Mom and Dad were inseparable. She spent countless hours beside her Art, working in the garden, and then many more putting up the preserves. Her baking was beyond compare. Moms life was her family, especially her two sons, Art and Raymond. Her love was evident in all she did, and all that came to know her were touched by it. In July of 1984, her beloved Art passed away. In 1990, Mom undertook a new adventure and moved to British Columbia with her sons and their families. She was such an important part of our lives, and brought much joy. Her grandchildren were her delight. Mom and grandma so enjoyed the things in life that mean most, faith and the love that abides with it. Predeceased by her parents, husband; and siblings, Joe and John Rafnkelsson, Sarah Sandmoen, and infant sisters; she leaves to mourn: son Art and wife Cory of Las Vegas, NV, grandchildren, Brigitte (Michal) Czerwinski of Seattle, WA, Michael Both of Calgary, AB; son Raymond and wife Debra, grandchildren, Jon, Rhea and Jade of Langley and Ryan Jones of Winnipeg, MB. Also left to mourn is dear sister Ragna Foss of Winnipeg, and many brothers- and sisters-in-law, as well as nieces and nephews. Viewing will take place from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Monday, February 2 at Bardal Funeral Home, 843 Sherbrook St., and one-half hour prior to the service which will take place at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, February 3, also at Bardal Funeral Home with Pastor Michael Kurtz officiating. Interment will follow at Chapel Lawn Memorial Gardens. Should family and friends so desire, in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Manitoba, 6 Donald St., Winnipeg, MB R3L 0K6.
