ANGUS IRVIN BRAMADAT (April 16, 1933 - March 18, 2004) Unexpectedly yet peacefully during a visit to his island of birth, Trinidad, W.I. He is missed by his wife Jane; their children, Kimberly, Karen and Paul; Pauls wife Karen Palmer and their son Max Milan Palmer Bramadat. Also left to mourn his death are his two brothers, Kelvin (and wife Ina) and Clyde (and wife Joyce) an uncle Donald Ramcharan (and wife Elaine) as well as many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends residing mostly in Winnipeg, other parts of Canada, England and Trinidad. Angus taught in Trinidad and then came to Canada in 1956 and completed degrees at United College and the University of Manitoba. He excelled in both sports and theatre. He married Jane Robson in 1960 and raised three children, mostly in Winnipeg. Following several years of teaching in Winnipeg he and his family returned to Trinidad to teach for two years. A year of teaching in England followed and then he returned to Winnipeg where he taught and then became a principal in various Fort Garry Schools until his retirement in 1992. Angus was very involved in the multicultural life of Winnipeg, serving with distinction at his home pavilion "Caricana" and then on the Folk Arts Council Board of Directors. He also served on the Manitoba Folk Arts Council and the Canadian Folk Arts Council Board. In the 1990s he was inducted into the FACW "Hall of Fame." In 1992 he moved with Jane to London, ON, where he served on the "Panorama" Board (Londons Folklorama) for many years and also became involved in UNICEF; the London Board of Educations anti-racism committee; the Mayors downtown team; and the production of a multicultural show for Canadas summer games. He was also very active in the Unitarian congregation in London; spearheading, among other things, the "Empty Bowls" project that raised funds for the poor. In the late 1990s his health began slowly and somewhat mysteriously to fail him. He moved to Victoria, BC where he spent the final two years of his life with his wife and daughters. He was happy to be back on an island, he said. He was a good father, husband and citizen. He left his mark on many places and people. Rest well, dear Angus. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on April 28 at the Unitarian Church of Winnipeg.

Mr Bramadat was my principal at Ralph Maybank Elementary. I was only in grade 2 when he retired, but I remember him as a very nice principal, one of the best I ever had. Rest in peace. - Posted by: Mel (Student) on: Apr 16, 2017
