GUNPAT RAMNANAN MAHARAJ 1912 - 2005 It is with great sadness that the family of Gunpat Ramnanan Maharaj announces his peaceful passing on March 19, 2005 at his home in Winnipeg, with family at his side. He was born in Trinidad, West Indies, where he was married to Sumintra Maharaj, who predeceased him in 1999. They moved to Canada in their later years to be closer to family. They are survived by six children, two sons, Dr. Charles R. Maharaj and Dr. Gunness R. Maharaj; four daughters, Camla, Karma, Radha, Seeta; 14 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; as well as their numerous nieces, nephews and their families. His quiet passion for life embodied all aspects of his spirituality, intellect and sense of humour. His philosophy of life was gently imparted to his progeny. He was loved by all members of the family and will especially be remembered for his serenade to his lady of the moon, with whom he celebrated his 70th wedding anniversary in 1999. The family would like to particularly acknowledge and thank Pandit and Panditine Monguru for their kindness and support. It is our belief that the Soul is part of the Divine Essence and by nature, pure and perfect, infinite in power and blessed, was never created, will never die, but will pass from stage to stage until it achieves perfection. Prayers followed by cremation will be held on Thursday, March 24 at 10:30 a.m. at Thomson In the Park Funeral Home, 1291 McGillivray Blvd., according to Hindu rites.
