GORDON GEORGE BODNER (BODNARCHUK) 1916 - 2005 It is with great sadness that the family announces the peaceful passing of Gordon George Bodner of Treherne, MB, on Tuesday, March 22, 2005, at the Tiger Hills Health Centre, Treherne, at the age of 88 years, beloved husband of Evelyn Bodner (nee Triggs). Gordon will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his beloved wife, Evelyn Bodner (nee Triggs); children, Brian (Ila) Bodner, Jenny (Ray) Wiebe, Bill (Rina) Bodner, Frances (D'Arcy) Glover; grandchildren, Bruce Wiebe, Mark, Susan and Stephen Bodner, Jennifer Ditchfield, Ross and Jeremy Glover; great-grandchildren, Mitchell Wiebe, Christine Wiebe and Joshua and Seth Ditchfield. Gordon is also survived by his brothers, Walter (Alice) Bodnarchuk and Jerry (Phyllis) Bodnarchuk and by his sister, Mary Mc Clelland, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Alexander and Katherine Bodnarchuk; sisters, Elizabeth (Frank) Lloyd, Dora (Steve) Sloboda; grandson, Jerry Wiebe; brother, Steve (Reta) Bodnarchuk and by brother-in-law, Allan Mc Clelland. Dad graduated from Rathwell High School and worked for various people in the Rathwell area. Gordon married Evelyn (Triggs) in 1941 during his service in the RCAF from 1940 to 1945. They settled in Treherne after the war years. Dad built the bowling alley, pool hall, barber shop in 1948 and operated Bodner's Bowling Alley until his retirement in 1980. While running the business, his skills in billiards and bowling excelled. Dad even substituted as the local barber, when his barbershop was between barbers. In his spare time Dad enjoyed hunting for arrowheads (a prelude to his long walks around town), polishing agates, attending various bingo games in the surrounding communities, gardening and reading. Dad especially liked a good rummy game when the kids came home to visit. He also didn't let the youngsters win, we believe he considered being soundly beat a good life experience. Dad will always be remembered as the walker , which we are sure added to his good health over the years. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the doctors and nursing staff at the HSC Emergency and MICU, and especially the Treherne hospital for their wonderful care of Dad during his final days. At his request there will be no service. Cremation has taken place and a family memorial will be held at a later date. As expressions of sympathy, if friends so wish, donations may be made in Gordon's memory to the Treherne Palliative Care Unit, Treherne, MB R0G 2V0, to CancerCare Manitoba Foundation, 675 McDermot Ave., Winnipeg, MB R3E 0V9, or to a charity of one's choice.
