PATRICK EDWARD MASON 1937 - 2005 Peacefully on Wednesday, March 23, 2005 at the Lake of the Woods District Hospital, Kenora, ON, Patrick Mason, beloved husband of Bev Mason of West Hawk Lake, MB, passed away. Besides his wife, Bev, he leaves to cherish his memory, his sons, Kirk (Cheryl), David (Ledise), Grant (Lori) and Gordon. As well as grandchildren, Erin, Sean, Caliegh, Ashley and Danielle. A brother Jack (Carol); brother-in-law Ron (Jeanette) and his aunt Rita Flatt. Patrick was predeceased by his parents, Gordon and Pearl Mason. Pat was born in Lemburg, SK in 1937. He graduated from high school in Rosetown, SK and began his 25 year career with the Royal Bank. He worked throughout Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta, Ontario and the North West Territories, as well as a three year posting in Nassau, Bahamas. He married his soulmate Beverly Hamilton in July 1962 and had four sons. In 1982 Pat retired from the bank and the family moved to West Hawk Lake, where they purchased Majors Service Centre, which soon became the hub of the small local community. Many of the world's problems were solved around the store table. Pat will be sadly missed by all the regular coffee bunch. Pat was very proud to be a Volunteer Firefighter, since 1972 he had served in Virden, Morden and West Hawk Lake. He was a co-founder of the South East Whiteshell Fire Department and served as Fire Chief for the last 23 years. It was something he took great pride in and it was a privilege for him to wear the Fire Chief's helmet. The family would like to thank Dr. Rob Kippen of Winnipeg, as well as the Palliative Care Unit at the Lake of the Woods Hospital in Kenora, ON. A special thanks to Don Bruce for all his help through these difficult times, and to the communities of West Hawk and Falcon Lake for your words and acts of kindness, they will not be forgotten. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, March 30 at 2:00 p.m. at the West Hawk Lake United Church, Rev. Cliff McMillan officiating.
