DOROTHY MAE RAY (STRATH) passed away peacefully on March 26, 2005 at the Minnedosa Hospital, aged 84 years. She was predeceased by her husband Weldon Ray in 1974. Dorothy was born in Shoal Lake, MB on July 29, 1920. She attended Randale, Shoal Lake and Strathclair Schools. She received her Teacher's Certificate in 1940 from the Brandon Normal School, teaching at Ethel, Newdale and Alexander Schools. In 1948 Dorothy married Weldon Ray of Newdale where they farmed and where she lived the rest of her life. She completed her working life as a substitute teacher and in the office of the R M of Harrison. Dorothy was a selfless person who always found joy in life and lived to share it with family and friends. She was very active in community affairs, having considerable interest and input into several community histories. She was an active, and life member of the UCW, church board and participated in Presbytery Affairs. She enjoyed curling, gardening, and in later years card games and always the daily crossword. She leaves to mourn her loss, two daughters, Linda Henderson (Craig), grandsons, Douglas (Monique) and Cameron; Donna Ray-Litke (Howard), grandchildren, Eldon and Shona. Also surviving are sister Christine Byquist; sisters-in-law, Lucille Strath and Ivy Ray; as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families. Dorothy was also predeceased by brother Hamish and sister Mary; brothers-in-law, Charlie Byquist, Ivan Routledge, Frank Farrell and Jack Ray; and sister-in-law Jean Farrell. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, March 30, at 2:00 p.m. at Newdale United Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Dorothy's name to the Newdale United Church, Newdale, MB R0J 1J0, The Canadian Cancer Society, 193 Sherbrook St., Winnipeg, R3C 2B7 or to the Minnedosa Hospital, P.
